Nick Weil is a Director and subject matter expert in data protection, cyber risk, privacy engineering, and health care compliance. He serves as privacy officer for universities, hospitals, life sciences organizations, and as security advisor to professional associations and technology companies.
In his consulting practice, Nick supports the entire compliance life cycle: from risk assessments, breach investigations, and technology deployment, to program strategy, expert reports, and fractional staffing. He is well-practiced in privacy standards, security frameworks, deidentification techniques, web tracking compliance and information blocking/interoperability requirements. His legal expertise includes HIPAA, FTC, GDPR, CCPA, FERPA, and clinical research requirements.
Before consulting, Nick was an in-house compliance officer, counsel, and regulatory advisor to various organizations—a health system, pharmacy, insurance company, physician group, psychiatric facility. He leverages this frontline experience to provide actionable advice and clear-eyed expertise to clients.
Nick speaks and writes frequently on information governance and data technology topics, presenting at industry association annual conferences and publishing in trade magazines and academic law journals. He is an IAPP privacy technologist and HCCA compliance professional, a certified cookie consent expert and licensed attorney. He received his JD from University of San Diego and his LLM in Health Law from Loyola University of Chicago.
